Sassy Mohen's innovative, bold, confident style has emerged as a pioneer in underdog narratives and female-driven storytelling.
Her multiple award-winning hot topic comedy satire How to Hack Birth Control, which she directed, wrote and produced has been called "Wickedly Funny and Charmingly Scathing" by IndieShorts Magazine and "Fans of Samantha Bee's or John Oliver's gifts for balancing information and entertainment will enjoy Mohen's deftness at playing in that same sandbox," by Beyond Chron.
Sassy and How to Hack Birth Control (2022) smashed the 2022 & 2023 festival circuit with official selections at over 70 festivals, including the Nashville Film Festival, Geena Davis' Bentonville Film Festival, NewFilmmakers LA, and Harlem Int. Film Festival. It has won 25 awards and 10 nominations and counting, including Best Picture; Best Director; Best Series & Best Series Pilot at over a dozen festivals and more.
In 2023, the City of West Hollywood and its Women’s Advisory Board voted unanimously to endorse the project and has set up special screening events of it for its members and the community. The project has also picked up endorsements from NARAL - Pro-choice America, SheNYC Arts & Truth be Told.
Her previous short film Fear Actually (2020) was released to rave reviews and won 3 Best Female Director Awards. FX Network tapped her to direct, write and produce for their online web channel, THIS IS AOK. She also won accolades with her rom-com web series About Abby (2010), TV pilot Weedland (2016) and A Single Girls Show (2013.) Her first independent feature film Happy Holidays (2007) which she began while still in film school at Chapman University was initially labeled “too ambitious,” would go on to turn a profit, be screened in theaters across the country and pick up distribution with IndieFlix. Due to popular demand, Happy Holidays - Director's Cut (2024) was digitally re-mastered in 2023 and was re-released in theaters, Amazon Prime, Tubi and other streamers in the fall 2024.
In 2024, Sassy directed multiple episodes of Jellysmack’s drama series Supermission, TikTok/Web series Hot Mess, and branded social commercials for Kraft, Budlight, Barbie, & Disney Studio film Disenchanted.
Kicking off 2025, Sassy collaborated with LP Studios & KStapl Productions for a series of viral shorts including bromance comedy Quench (2025) and family drama Keep Pushing (2025) that have clocked in over 100K views and counting.
She is currently in production & development with multiple projects including her latest feature, On the Hook, a Texas abortion road trip dramady being made in collaboration with Planned Parenthood and the Entertainment Initiative - Better Life Lab @ New America, slated to begin production in March 2026.
On the Hook has already picked up accolades including winning Columbia University's Pre-Production of the Motion Picture Award, is an official selection of The Nashville Film Festival, Filmshop’s Breakthrough Series, is a finalist for the De Groot Foundation’s ‘Courage to Write,’ grant and more.
