In 2015, legal marijuana in Los Angeles was a budding business and with it came a spurt of legally ambiguous delivery services. After coming up with the outline for WEEDLAND, writer Sassy Mohen didn't want to guess what the world was like, but instead, write its reality. To learn the truth, she worked at four different medical marijuana delivery services and was surprised to find the heart of the story didn't lie in the drug, but in the thick legal quagmire surrounding everyone involved.
Under the guise of legitimate business, employers steal from employees. The government steals from the industry. And this industry is growing, but its biggest enemy is itself.
